LOS ANGELES, CA — Golden State Opportunity board member Adewale “Wally” Adeyemo will serve as the first-ever president of the Obama Foundation, the Chicago-based organization announced Thursday.

A California native, Adeyemo is the former Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council, serving as President Barack Obama’s chief international economic advisor. At the Obama Foundation, Adeyemo will be responsible for day-to-day operations, helping to implement the organization’s overall strategic goals and vision.

“We are so proud of Wally for this great accomplishment. I know he will bring the same passion for social justice, civic engagement and lifting up all Americans that he has brought to the Golden State Opportunity board and his whole career in public service,” said Golden State Opportunity President Josh Fryday. “Wally is an exceptional human being and I am lucky to call him a friend. The whole Golden State Opportunity team is thrilled for him and the Obama Foundation, and we look forward to our continued work together.”

The Obama Foundation’s mission to support the next generation of leaders making positive change in their communities aligns well with that of Golden State Opportunity, which seeks to ensure financial security for everyone—thereby opening up opportunities for a new generation of leaders.
